20 December 2008 - Frick Park

There will be a Mud, Blood, and Beer on Saturday, 20 December 2008.  Robby and CMU-Jon are going host a ride. Riders will meet Rachel Carson Environmental Center parking area on Beechwood Blvd. at 1:30 PM.  Plans are to go unless it's raining. Check in with Robby or Jon if weather looks questionable.

Afterwards, if riders are game, we'll probably hit a local coffee shop or D's for some post-ride refreshments/dinner.

The Plan

1. People leaving from the South Hills, I plan to drive and can hold 4 people max
   Mr Dolbee & Mr Barlas come to my house @ 9:15 & get loaded.
   
2. Pickup Jon somewhere near the Parkway in Squirrel Hill - I propose Giant Eagle Parking Lot on Murray Ave (near Hazelwood Ave) @10:00 AM
   
3. Arrive at 7-Springs - North Ski Area Parking Lot (Upper Lot) ~11:30 AM
   
4. Meet anyone else who would like to go ~11:30 AM
   
5. Depart at High Noon (As Mr Parish Says) - Plan to bike the 12-Mile Loop - Jon knows the way.

Bring lunch. Anyone who plans to attend please let me know by E-Mail. I plan to go unless heavy rain is predicted the day before the ride. I will call or e-mail if I cancel. (Anyone who cannot attend, only written excuses will be accepted, signed by someone in higher authority.)

Eric is hosting a ride at Hartwood Acres on Wednesday evening , 25 June 2008. We went there about a month ago and were blown away by the great trails. We can meet at the main parking lot on your right at the top the entrance driveway that is off of Saxonburg Road at 6:15 P.M..  Click HERE for a map of where to park. There will be a Mud, Blood, and Beer on Wednesday, 18 June 2008.  We're going to try something new and do a Frick'n Adventure in the middle of the week! Every time we go there on the weekend we have a blast, so a few of us thought we'd try it mid-week. We'll meet behind the Frick Park Nature Center on Beechwood Avenue at 5:30 PM.   (Click here for a map showing the starting point.)

15 June 2008 - Quebec Run

CMU-Jon will host a Mud, Blood, and Beer on Sunday, 15 June 2008, at Quebec Run. It should be a great day in the mountains. I used to hike that area as a kid and the scenery is awesome. Jon suggests meeting at the trailhead at 10:30 A.M. (so people wouldn't have to leave their houses too much before 9 A.M.).  Click here for a map. That route is taking 51 almost the whole way.  The turnpike to 119 is also an option, though probably not for you South Park area natives.

Jon notes:

The goal is to get everybody to "Quebec Road," which I was actually quite surprised to see exists in Google Maps / Mapquest.  It's just a gravel road for power line maintenance, with a parking lot at the end.  If you've ever been to Laurel Caverns, this is about a mile or two past the entrance to Laurel Caverns, where Skyline Drive makes a ridiculous 180 hairpin.  Quebec Road runs off the point of the hairpin. As long as everybody packs a sizeable snack / lunch, we should be just fine.

10~13 May 2008 - Pittsburgh-to-DC Trail Ride

Some of the MBB crew are planning to ride from Pittsburgh to Washington DC in May.  The route involves a lot of rails-to-trails and about 185 miles along the C&O Canal Trail.  I've ridden most of the route in segments.  It promises to be an incredible ride that will give us many a story for our weekly post-ride refreshment/philosophy sessions.  :-) Jon's started a discussion thread on the forums to work out some of the details.
