Blood (About Us)

We're a fun-loving group of recreational mountain bikers centered in Pittsburgh, PA (USA). Our members span more than three decades in age, include both guys and girls, and represent all levels of experience and expertise.

Requirements . . .

The only formal requirement for membership is that you are cool and like to ride. We don't want uptight people; if you want to wear flashy clothes and act like you are God's gift to mountain biking then join some other group, or come along and prepare to be ridiculed.* Our group is not about competition. Instead everyone helps and inspires one another to embrace the ride. No one is ever left behind and laughter is expected.

The rides . . .

We ride at least once each week. Our weekly rides are usually in South Park or Frick Park. We have, however, made trips to Brady's Run, Quebec Run, Boyce Park, Hartwood Acres, Seven Springs, and Moraine. We're also planning to hit some new places in the coming season... including a trip to CO. Keep an eye on the Ride List for the latest information and then just show up. The number of riders wanes a bit in the winter, but the warm weather riders often join us after the ride for refreshments.

The start . . .

For several years, three guys who worked together kept talking about how they should all go riding sometime. Well, sometime never happened. Then a new bottle shop featuring more than 600 varieties of imported and domestic beers opened near South Park. I knew that was enough to tempt the others, so in April 2007, I set up the first Mud, Blood, and Beer. We had a great ride and really enjoyed the refreshments and camaraderie at the end of the trail. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to do it again the following week. Someone else heard about us by word of mouth and joined us. The same thing happened the next week, and the next week, and the next week . . . and the group continues to grow!

And speaking of the web site . . .

We put the web site up to make communications a little easier. The main portions of the site contain information on upcoming rides, a little history about our group, and some good beer recommendations. The Forums section is an interactive place where anyone can post topics for discussion. So explore a little bit... then load up your bike and join us on a ride!

Rock, Rock On!
